Yakushima Blues

Yakushima Blues is a photobook created by Argentine photographer Mauro Mongiello in 2018 during an artist residency on the Japanese island of Yakushima. Conceived as a photographic diary, it documents his time on the island—its places, as well as some of the characters and inhabitants who, through their gazes, convey the uniqueness of the place they call home. Natural landscapes and artificial elements come together across more than one hundred pages, offering the perspective of a Western photographer on an Eastern island.
